Minutes of the Louisville Public Library Board of Trustees for June 10, 2008

Call to Order:
Meeting was called to order by Mr. Barton at 4:30 p.m.

Members present:
Ms. Holmes
Ms. Berg
Mr. Schumacher
Mr. Hallier
Mr. Barton

Members absent:
Mr. Anderson
Ms. Mickley.

Staff present:
Mr. Michael Snyder, Director
Ms. Michele Monnette, Fiscal Officer
Kathy Heller – Staff Member

Ms. Holmes motioned to excuse Mr. Anderson and Ms. Mickley from meeting, Mr. Schumacher seconded the motion and all voting yes.

Additions or corrections to the agenda:

  • 6b) Vacation Leave – Personnel Committee
  • 6c) Process for Employee Evaluations – 2nd Time

Public/Staff presentations:
Kathy Heller gave a progress report of the Young Adult Department and the Local History services provided by the Library.

Consent Agenda:
a)Approval of the minutes of the regular meeting on May 13, 2008.

b)Approval of the minutes of the special meeting on May 23, 2008.

c)Acceptance of the staff Continuing Education monthly report – Jodi Heppe attended an OHIONET Workshop on the “Fundamentals of Cataloging: Classification” on May 8, 2008 at the North Canton Public Library.

d)Acceptance of statistical report – We are continuing to work with the Stark County Library to develop a new statistical report.

e)Received $100.00 from the Friends of the Library for the 2008 Summer Reading Program.

f)No changes in the furniture and equipment inventory.

Ms. Berg motioned to approve items a – 3 on the above consent agenda, seconded by Ms. Holmes and all voting yes.

Fiscal Officer
a)Financial Report for May 2008 was reviewed and is on file with the Fiscal Officer.

b)Bills paid for May 2008 were reviewed and are on file with the Fiscal Officer.

Old Business
a) The Personnel Policy will be forwarded to the Prosecutors regarding vacation and sick leave.

b) The Personnel committee will again begin the process of staff evaluations.

Motion by Mr. Hallier to amend the 2008 budget by $100.00 and to appropriate this amount for the 2008 Summer Reading Program, Mr. Schumacher seconded the motion and all voting yes.

New Business

Motion by Mr. Schumacher to close the Library on Saturday, July 5, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to celebrate Independence Day, Ms. Berg seconded the motion and all voting yes.

Motion by Mr. Hallier to enroll with Frank Gates for the 2009 Group Rating Program for Workers Compensation in the amount of $264.00, Mr. Schumacher seconded the motion and all voting yes.

Report of the Board Committees

a)Finance Committee – Meeting scheduled on June 25th for the 2009 Alternate Tax Budget.

b)Personnel Committee - Will schedule a meeting date at a later time.

c)Property Committee – Discussed the light and roof repairs.

Report of the Library Director

a)Involvement of Board Candidates in the mission of the library.

b)Board of Trustees monthly meetings beginning at 4:30 p.m.

c) Board of Trustees Committee Goals for 2008:

  • June
    • Finance Committee to close out the Bonnet Fund
    • Finance Committee to review contract with Unique Management, Inc.
    • Finance Committee to revisit the Contingency Budget with the intent of increasing the materials categories
    • Personnel Committee to revise Position Descriptions for Fiscal
    • Officer Director and Assistant Director
    • Personnel committee to review Salary Range Schedule

  • Aug
    • Ad hoc Technology committee to review relevant Policies and Procedures

  • Sept
    • Ad hoc Bylaws Committee will submit its report for Board of Trustee consideration

c)Scheduled programs, events, and activities for 2008:

  • June 12 “Local foods: Grow, Eat, Live!”
  • June 28 “digital Photography Class for Adults and Teens”
  • July 24 “Secret Life of Bees” by Sue Monk Kidd
