Louisville Library Offers Free "Wi-Fi"
The Louisville Public Library is pleased to offer free wireless access to the Internet (aka “hot spots” and “WiFi”) for use by patrons with their own personal notebooks, laptops and other mobile devices.
According to Library Director Mike Snyder, this is the latest in a number of new services provided to the citizens of Louisville and Nimishillen Township. “With today’s mobile society,’ Snyder said, “citizens need to keep in touch with friends and business associates at all times throughout the day. Since the Louisville Public Library is open so many hours, we are a natural place for citizens to visit when connecting to the Internet. We hope the community will realize that the Louisville Public Library is indeed their “Best Stop of the Day.”
The library requires all Wi-Fi users to either possess or secure a free library card. The library requires all Wi-Fi users to review the Internet and Wireless Policy and to sign an agreement to abide by the rules outlined in the policy. Holders of restricted library cards (13 years and younger) must have signed permission of a parent or guardian to use the Wi-Fi network.
Access to either the library’s computers or the library’s Wi-Fi network is intended for educational, informational, and recreational purposes only, not for unauthorized, illegal, or unethical purposes.
As with other library materials, parents or legal guardians of minor children have the responsibility to supervise access to Internet resources in the library.
Printing access is not available via the wireless connection. To print, work should be saved to a disk or be emailed to the patron’s account, then retrieved from a wired library workstation and sent to the public printer.
These access points are unsecured and accessible only during normal library hours. The Louisville Public Library uses WiFi standards IEEE 802.11b and 802.11.g.
